Giving Life To An Old Dresser
I recently purchased an old dresser for $7. I loved the details on it, but it was very beat up. I was determined to give it new life!
I first took off the hardware, removed the drawers, and sanded down my piece.
Then, I chose a soft gray chalk paint. I love how well chalk paint covers and it is easy to work with. It took a few coats to completely cover my piece.
While my paint dried, I repainted the hardware. Many times, I simply replace the hardware with something more modern. But I loved the look of these pulls. Very unique! So I simply gave them a fresh coat of silver.
I wanted to do something different with the top. It was beat up and dented and I wasn't sure paint could hide everything. Plus, I wanted a contrasting top. So, I used shelf liner! I chose one that looked like marble and simply stuck it on.
It worked great at hiding imperfections and giving the dresser a special quality. Of course, you could also paint the top or have a slab or marble cut to fit your dresser.
Lastly, I put it all back together. Hardware on, drawers back in, and.... the dresser has a completely different look!
Don't be afraid to paint furniture. It truly can give an old piece new life!
